The Math is All in the Boston Red Sox Favor
No matter how you slice it, with 4 games left and a 3 game lead you have to like the Boston Red Sox chances of winning the American League East.
There are 25 different permutations (math speak for combinations of outcomes) of outcomes for the Red Sox and Yankees. Only 3 of those have the Yankees taking the division (the Red Sox win no games and the Yankees win 4 or 3, or the Red Sox win 1 and the Yankees win 4). All other outcomes have the Red Sox winning the American League East Division championship. For those of you who are math challenged, the Yankees have a 12% chance of winning the American League East. Conversely, the Red Sox have a 88% chance of taking the AL East Crown.
