Final College Football Bowl Game Wrap Up
It is finally over. With the playing of the Senior Bowl last Saturday, the 2007 college football bowl / championship season has finally come to an end. Here are some stat’s from the just finished bowl game season:
- 53 bowl / championship games were scheduled
- 52 bowl games were played (one, the Las Vegas All-American Classic, was canceled due to lack of sponsorship)
- In 18 games, just over a third, the margin of victory was less than 7 points:
- There was one overtime win - Auburn over Clemson 23 to 20 in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl
- 3 games were won by 1 point (Sioux Falls (S.D.) 11 - Missouri Valley 10 in the NAIA Football National Championship Semifinals, BYU 17 - UCLA 16 in the Las Vegas Bowl, and South 17 - North 16 in the Senior Bowl)
- In 13 games the margin of victory was 7 to 14 points
- In 10 games the margin of victory was 8 to 21 points
- 11 games were won by 22 points or more
- The largest margin of victory was 56 points (Tulsa 63 - Bolwing Green 7 in the GMAC Bowl)
- The most points scored by a team was 63 by Tulsa in the GMAC Bowl
- The highest combined score was 76 (Mount Union 62 - Bethel 14 in the NCAA Division III Championship Semifinals)
