Best Quote for Clemens

As you might imagine, the papers today were full of commentary and fan reaction to the Roger Clemens investigation (see: Roger Clemens Investigation is On!). The best fan quote I have seen yet was a fan comment directed to Roger in this morning’s Boston Globe: “Say hello to Michael Vick.

Roger Clemens Investigation is On!

Congress today asked the Justice Department to investigate Roger Clemens to determine whether he lied uner oath to Congress. For now, Brain McNamee is in the clear and only Clemens faces additional investigation.

Somebody Should Pay

Congress will decide by the end of the week whether to ask the Justice Department to investigate whether Roger Clemens or Brian McNamee lied to Congress. Given that their two testimonies were diametrically opposed, someone is clearly lying. Congress can recommend that neither, one, or both be investigated. To my mind, both should be investigated. Personally I think that Roger is not telling the truth, but in the interest of fairness, both should be investigatged.

To not investigate would make a mockery of our justice system and allow perjury before Congress to stand - a very bad precedent.  Roger should not be able to get off because he is famous and the “hero” of some in Congress. Brian should not be able to make false testimony destroying somebody’s reputation. The truth needs to be found out. The guilty party needs to be punished.

Post Mortem on a Ski Vacation

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 2:56 pm on Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Last week, February school vacation week in Massachusetts, I went up to New Hampshire with my family skiing for 5 days. Day 1 we went cross country skiing (see: Excellent Day Cross Country Skiing - Why This Sport Is Not More Popular is Beyond Me). Day 2 and 5 we skied Black Mountain in Jackson. Day 4 we skied Cranmore in North Conway.

The conditions for all days were the best I have ever seen in my 20 years of skiing in New England. Cranmore is the larger of the two mountains that we skied, and maybe because of this and the bigger crowds I found the conditions to be icier than Black. On the subject of crowds, Black never ceases to amaze me. Granted it is a smaller mountain so many pass it up for its bigger cousins. But because of this it is never crowded. I got in 15 runs on our first day there and this was with the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge going on. In contrast, Cranmore was much more crowded and I only managed 7 runs in the day there.

More snow if forecast for tonight so New England skiers head north while the skiing is good - it could be another 20 years before we see conditions this good.
