Tennis: The Womens Game — Lessons For Us Too

There's a strong implication recreational players can gain from the 2007. The main focus is on the world's two best players, and as I see it, it can be grasped not just by recreational adults but also by juniors, parents, and coaches.

New England Ski Country Off to Good Start

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 8:04 pm on Friday, December 21, 2007

80% of the trails in the 6 New England states are open. Only a few (5) ski areas have left to open with most of them scheduled to open tomorrow (12/22/2007). The Boston area has already exceeded its 2006 snowfall  3 weeks into December. This could be a very good ski season in New England if trends continue.

There is some rain in the forecast however.  Sunday across New England is supposed to have temperatures ranging from the mid-30s to nearly 50 in southern areas. Most areas will be receiving showers or light rain. Up north it may be freezing rain. Hopefully this is just a small speed bump for the 2007/2008 New England ski season.

Shop MLB Has Terrible Customer Service

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 7:11 pm on Friday, December 21, 2007

Heaven forbid that you ever have a problem with a customized shirt from shopmlb.com. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. It takes them forever to verify that they made a mistake (as in a lot of long waits on hold). Once they have verified that it is incorrect it again takes them forever to get out a return shipping label to you (another long wait on hold). And if you need the item in a hurry, like it is a holiday present, there appears to be absolutely no way for them to expedite  a reorder even though they were in the wrong in the first place…

So what is the lesson. If you are purchasing customized items for the holidays order way in advance so you have time to recover if they make a mistake. Also, place items with different name/number combinations on separate orders. My problem was three shirts, two different names. I got three shirts with the same name… I am pretty sure if they had been handled as different orders they would have gotten it correct.

Give Me a Break

In response to the Mitchell report Roger Clemens had denied ever using performance enhancing drugs. The allegations were made in the report by former trainer Brian McNamee who made similar allegations about Andy Pettitte who has admitted that the allegations were true.

So let me get this straight Roger. The guy, facing potential Federal perjury charges if he lied in his testimony,  told the truth about Andy Pettitte but lied about you. That does not even pass the smile test.

Roger, your reputation has taken a hit. The accomplishments of the later part of your career will now be looked upon with a cautious eye (that now famous asterisk). Please don’t add to your woes by insulting our intelligence. Count me as one who doubts the veracity of your denial…

New England Ski Season Off to a Great Start

The New England ski season is off to one of its best starts in many many years. Some stat’s to back that up:

  • In Vermont 80% of the terrain is already open. It was only at 15% this time last year. The historical average is 60-70%.
  • New Hampshire’s 19 ski areas have over 450 trails open compared to just 83 last year.
  • Attitash in New Hampshire opened a full month earlier this year.
  • The Boston area has its best December snowfall since 2003 as does Rutland, Vermont.
  • Berlin, New Hampshire has the best snowfall in over 5 years.
