Sleep, Glorious Sleep

Now that the World Series is over and our lives are getting back to normal there is one thing that all of us in the east coast part of Red Sox nation greatly appreciate - a good nights sleep. With the 8:20 PM first pitch start to the games and games going to well past midnight, well, we had all been getting pretty zombie-like. 2007 World Series game 3 was the longest nine-inning game in World Series history at 4 hours 14 minutes. So with the first World Series-less night, we all finally got a good nights sleep.

Yes, I’m sure that in a few weeks we will come to miss baseball. Unlike most other sports, baseball becomes an almost daily part of your life from April to October… But for the next week or so we will just be catching up on our sleep…

Red Sox Victory and First Frost Signal End to Baseball 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 2:23 pm on Monday, October 29, 2007

It is somehow very ironic that with the Red Sox World Series victory putting an end to the 2007 baseball season we had our very first frost here in the Boston area. All through the playoffs and fall classic we have had unseasonably warm, summer like, weather. Now, as if to punctuate the end of baseball it is finally becoming very fall like…

I had heard rumors for some time that there was a football season going on. So this morning after reading all of the Red Sox coverage (this is Boston, there was a lot of it…) I decided to take a look at the rest of the sports section and low and behold… the Patriots are 8-0… the Boston College Eagles are the number 2 football team in the country…

Upon further exploration… the Bruins actually having a winning start to their 07/08 season… many are actually picking the Celtics to be a major contender this season… the New England Revolution are in the MLS Cup playoffs…

It’s not a bad time to be a Boston sports fan…

I?m Getting My Couch for Free

Yes, the insurance companies for Jordan’s Furniture may be looking for federal disaster relief. With the Red Sox World Series victory a whole bunch of people, myself included, will be getting refund checks for furniture we purchased way back in the spring (see:  The Red Sox Have to Win the World Series Because I Want My Couch for Free)…

Red Sox, you are the only only only

Tessie is the Royal Rooters rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dinneen and Young
Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye
Tessie is a maiden with a love
She doesn’t know the meaning of her sight
She’s got a comment full of love
And sometimes when the game is on the line
Tessie always carried them away
Up the road from “Third Base” to Huntington
The boys will always sing and sway

Two! Three! Four!

Tessie, “Nuf Ced” McGreevey shouted
We’re not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

The Rooters showed up at the grounds one day
They found their seats had all been sold
McGreevey led the charge into the park
Stormed the gates and put the game on hold
The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston’s tenth man could not be wrong
Up from “Third Base” to Huntington
They’d sing another victory song

Two! Three! Four!

Tessie, “Nuf Ced” McGreevey shouted
We’re not here to mess around
Boston, you know we love you madly
Hear the crowd roar to your sound
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only

The Rooters gave the other team a dreadful fright
Boston’s tenth man could not be wrong
Up from “Third Base” to Huntington
They’d sing another victory song

Two! Three! Four!

Hear the crowd roar to your sound

You know we couldn’t live without you
Tessie, you are the only only only
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Boston, you are the only only only
Don’t blame us if we ever doubt you
You know we couldn’t live without you
Red Sox, you are the only only only

Rookies Rock Rox

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 2:50 pm on Sunday, October 28, 2007

The Boston Red Sox rookies really took it to the Colorado Rockies last night in World Series Game 3. Jacoby Ellsbury, a guy who was still playing in Pawtucket late into the summer went 4 for 5 last night with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs. Dustin Pedroia went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs. Even Dice-K Matsuzaka (a pitcher!) went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Combined (in case you can’t do the math), the three rookies had 8 of the Red Sox 15 hits and 6 of 10 RBIs.

Thus far in the World Series Ellsbury is 5 for 9 at the plate and Pedroia is 5 for 14.

Let us hope they keep it up in Game 4…

It is the Pitching?

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 3:47 pm on Friday, October 26, 2007

The axiom goes that the team with the best pitching will prevail in the post season. The Boston Red Sox are starting to look like the World Series contender with the better pitching (but most predicted that going in). Last night on a night when the bats fell silent (in contrast to game 1), the 2 runs that they did manage to score proved to be enough as Red Sox pitching held the Rockies to only 1 run.

Two games into it and the Rockies have only scored 2 runs. Like I said… It’s the pitching…

BC With Great Come-from-Behind Win

Filed under: Uncategorized, About every sport — admin at 3:41 pm on Friday, October 26, 2007

The Boston College Eagles were sleep walking through a rainy night in Blacksburg, Virginia. The number 2 Eagles were trailing the Number 8 Virginia Tech. Hokies 10 to 0 with 4:11 left to go in the game. That is when Heisman Trophy hopeful Matt Ryan and the Eagles decided to wake up. They scored their first touchdown with 2:11 left. Then after recovering an onside kick they scored touchdown number 2, the game winner, with 11 seconds left (4:11, 2:11, 0:11 - If I were on this team I think I would get a lottery ticket with the number 11 in it…).

The Eagles are now 8-0 on the season and are still in the running for the BCS championship game.
